After the conclusion of week 2's games in the NFL our Denver Broncos fall to 0-2 on the season. Their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home in Denver there was definitely progression from week 1. Even though it was a loss the team as a whole looked much better and more competitive from the first snap to the last snap. There are definitely things the team needs to work but one thing is clear is that the team can compete, and they will play close.
Looking into the game the offense stilled had it’s struggles with moving the ball and getting points on the board. The offensive struggles this week really came on the back of the running backs who struggled to establish the run and make it easier on Bo Nix who looked better this week compared to last week’s loss. He was going against a really good pass rush who was all of over him most of the game making it tough on the rookie quarterback. However, he avoided a lot of sacks and tried to really push the ball down field which was progress. The bright spot of the game for the Broncos was that their defense came out and fixed their second half problems from the previous week. They were able to stop the run when they needed to and held their quarterback Justin Fields to under 120 passing yards. Overall, the great defensive performance wasn’t enough for the Broncos to pull out the win as they lose by a score of 13-6.
The Broncos now are looking ahead to traveling to Tampa Bay to play the 2-0 Buccaneers in week 3. This game is now a “must win” which is really unfortunate to say. Their remaining schedule for the season is very tough and they need to get a win on the board if they want to have a serious chance at keeping their playoff aspirations alive for the 2024 season. The Broncos are capable of winning this game if they carry over their defensive performance from this week to next and are able to establish a run game to help the rookie out in Bo Nix.
